Social Media, PR, Web Design, Prematurely-Retired Professional Cyclist

I currently work in public relations and social media for HeartMath LLC and the Institute of HeartMath. I am also a web designer, working on a freelance basis and with Spiracle Media for other projects. My bachelors degree is from Pennsylvania State University with a major in public relations/advertising and minor in business.

In a past life, not too long ago, I raced bicycles at a professional level, competing in Europe and across North America with some of the world’s fastest cyclists. Upon graduating from Penn State in 2009 life took me in a slightly different direction. I’ll save my life story for another venue, but anyhow, here I am now relaunching my blog for sharts and gargles.

The views expressed on this blog are my own.

How far has the internet come since 1996?

Let’s take a look at two examples to see just how far the internets have become. I took a look under the hood of the original Space Jam (remember that movie?) website and copied and pasted all 26 lines of code from one of the pages. I also took a look under the hood of …

#Stinkbug Meets Vine App

I downloaded the Vine app on my iPhone and made my first “vine.” This is a new app where you make a six second video put together from as may clips as you like. Meet the stink bug who was crawling on the wall of my living room last night… There’s really no point to …

Glowing Steel

Here’s a picture I submitted to Pixoto. I used HDR tone mapping to make the colors stand out. I thought is came out pretty good. I can’t want to try some more landscapes with HDR.

HDR: I’m ‘Geeking’ Out

Somebody help me because I’m geeking out with my camera. I just installed the Magic Lantern Firmware on my camera so I can start doing some better things with HDR (High Dynamic Range) shooting. Most importantly, I can now shoot with five brackets instead of the standard three. Here’s my first experiment. It looks horrible and …

Photography is an Iceburgh

It’s true, you get into photography thinking that all you have to do is point a half decent camera at something pretty and voila, there you have a nice photo, ready to sign and frame! C’est ne vrais pas. That’s french for ‘think again.’ You’re only at the tip of the photography iceburgh. You need …

Mt. Washington, Pittsburgh

I got a brand new camera for Christmas – a Canon Rebel t3i to be exact – and I was ecstatic to finally start shooting with it. I went out around the neighborhood, trekked 1.5 miles through the snow, snapped 429 photos, and these are a few of them. This is going to be a …

This kid will teach you how to dougie

If junior ever gets made fun of in school, all he has to do is show this video (below) to automatically redeem any false sense of unworthiness unjustly placed upon him. He “dougied” with the Tampa Bay Buccaneer cheerleaders and killed it. The downside, he’ll probably develop a severe regret later in life for not …

Word of the Day: Asinine

Today’s word of the day is asinine. My suggestion: don’t be asinine. as·i·nine  adj. 1. Utterly stupid or silly: asinine behavior. 2. Of, relating to, or resembling an ass. Image credit: Muffet on flickr

My Dream Home

I can’t wait! Every year HGTV hands over a brand new dream home to somebody who is incredibly lucky. All you have to do is enter in their giveaway, but the chances of winning are one in a bazillion. Last year the dream home was Park City Utah, and this year it is a beach …

Whack Friday: Walmart customers fight over phones

This video shows grown adults regressing to their three-year-old selves in Walmart on black Friday, or perhaps a room full of people who flunked pre-school. What sparked this feeding frendzy you’ll see in the video? Apparently it was a discount on phones where the supply seems to be a tad less than demand. I can’t …

Boulder is beautiful

If you know me, then you know I have a love affair with Boulder, Colorado. I follow the Boulder Facebook page to see what I’m missing and drool over the mountains. Here’s a photo they posted recently that I wanted to share. This one comes from Greg Summers at Colorado Photos.

First snow of winter

Mark this day, November 24, 2012, because it snowed for the first time this winter – at least where I am in Pittsburgh. Here before you is photographic evidence. Perhaps someday my wife and I will be fortunate enough to move to a latitude where the fluffy white stuff exists only as the myth of …

I’m back

For more than a year my personal website showed only a static screen that said, “New website coming soon,” but I couldn’t let that happen any longer. Recently I’ve had the urge to re-launch my blog and get my personal website going again. My intentions are to: 1) Put up a temporary website so I …

Ancient Conehead-Like ‘Alien’ Skulls Unearthed In Mexico

The Coneheads was a documentary? An archaeological discovery of 13 “conehead”-shaped skulls in Mexico has people recalling the famed Saturday Night Live sketch. The bones, which are about 1,000 years old, dating from 945 A.D. to 1308 A.D., were discovered accidentally during a dig for an irrigation system in the northwest state of Sonora in Mexico. While it’s not …
